SHEEP
A tremendous show of sheep right through the market this week, both in terms of numbers and the quality of the stock in the pens. Breeding sheep shone once again at the early breeding sheep sale this year, with over 98% clearance rate amongst breeding females and a good entry in the show for the Judge, Mr Tom Ogg of Alkborough to choose from. He picked a super pen of 4 Texel Gimmers from Tim Dixon, Cabourne as the first prize winners, the second year in a row Tim has taken the top prize, and then went on to purchase them for £275. Trade was topped by a pen of Suffolk X SHB Gimmers from B Meadley of Skeffling at £280 and in the Ewe Class, C F Buckton & Son of Rise came out on top with a pen of 4 Texel Ewes, again purchased by the judge, Mr Ogg. In the fat market, lambs were really flying today, with a good show of buyers round the pens, market topped by a pair of Blue Texels from C Bailey, Cottingham, again purchased by Propa Meats of Roos, who’ll have some lovely meat in the shop this week, between these and the pigs. Ewes with flesh are flying at the moment whilst those needing feeding are probably lacking a bit. More demand for them on the store market weeks as well.
