CATTLE
The second half of a special dispersal sale of a Suckler Herd of Cows & Calves on behalf of L Scott, Seaton yesterday, with a fantastic turnout on what ended up being a sunny Early May Bank Holiday Monday and a trade to match on what was another good show of cattle, with a few further entries by permission. Trade buoyant throughout the sale for what was generally younger outfits of cows with calves at foot with many calves between 2 and 6 weeks old, but well and truly in their working clothes having been housed since the autumn and remaining so for the further entries from other vendors, with vendors going home happy from the start to end of the sale. We would like to thank all the buyers and others who attended the market over the two sale days that helped make each day a success. Cows & Calves to £3,450 for an 7 year old Limousin with a 6 week old Limousin Steer at foot from L Scott, Seaton, to average £2,668.
£3,250 Beef Shorthorn cow 5yo with a Limousin steer 6 weeks – L Scott, Seaton.

PIGS
Pig numbers up this week with a run of over half a dozen heavy gilts. Sow trade back again, into the mid to low 20p/kg, with an oversupply over on the continent spilling over into the domestic market. Pig trade of the day coming in the form of a 145kg heavy gilt from DA & CA Buckton, Danthorpe selling for 107p/kg or £155.15 to Parkin Family Butchers, Howden.
Heavy Gilts to 107p/kg and £155.15 average 53.34p/kg
Cull Sows to 28.5p/kg and £84.50, average 24.1p/kg.
SHEEP
A nice little show of sheep yesterday with the first spring lambs making their appearance in the market, seeing a demand and a trade to match. A pair of strong 49 ½ kg lambs realising 475p/kg or £224/head and selling to Parkin Family Butchers, Howden, with more to hopefully follow next week. Hogg trade good for the right hoggs forward, with bigger and leaner sorts being knocked yesterday. Top price coming from a pen of 48 ½ kg hoggs from regular vendor N Harland, Alkbrough selling for 363p/kg or £176/head to A J Livestock, Hotham.

CATTLE
A smaller show of cattle with this week, with a good show expected next week. But trade remaining strong. In the big ring we saw the end of a run of 11-to-16-month-old Limousin steers and heifers from WJ Cawthorne & Son of their usual quality selling to £1,710 averaging £1,531. Top price being realised however by a strong 12-month-old Limousin Steer from JT Binley, Fitling selling for £1,730, with the same vendor also selling 10-month-old Limousin Steer for £1,680. Trade as buoyant in the little ring with a couple different vendors forward. A run of calves from A Oxtoby & Son selling to £800 for a 3-month-old British Blue bull, averaging £552. Younger calves forward from EW & S Varley selling to £510 for a 6-week-old Limousin bull, averaging £283.

A huge show of pigs yesterday with over 100 through the market including a run of fat pigs. Sow trade back again a penny of two on last week, with the oversupply over on the continent affecting the domestic market further. Pig trade of the day coming in the form of a 100kg heavy gilt from Foster Farms, Catwick selling for 100p/kg or £100 to A J Livestock, Hotham.
Porker Boar to 60p/kg and £51.60.
Bacon Boars to 64p/kg and £69.76, average 64p/kg.
Overweight Boar 62p/kg and £73.78.
Heavy Gilts to 100p/kg and £155, average 60.2p/kg
Cull Sows to 27p/kg and £95.67, average 23.6p/kg.
SHEEP
Sheep numbers up this week with a bit of all sorts through the market. More spring lambs sold yesterday, which is good to see. A pair of 40 ½ kg lambs from C & L Whitehead, Rise selling to 420p/kg or £170/head. Hopefully more lambs to follow after the bank holiday. Hogg trade good, similar to last week for the right hoggs forward, with top price coming from a pen of 43 ½ kg hoggs from regular vendor E Brown & S Suddaby, Bempton realising 377p/kg or £164/head.

A Tremendous show of cattle yesterday with 70+ sold through the market yesterday. We saw large runs of Limousin Steers & Heifers from both L Scott, Seaton and W J Cawthorne & Sons, Lockington both seeing a good trade. L Scott’s run of steer and heifers selling to £1,745 for a 12-month-old Limousin steer averaging £1,547. W J Cawthorne & Sons run of heifers selling to £1,595 for a 15-month-old Limousin averaging £1,473. Trade being topped however by a pair of 23-26 month old Limousin Heifers from NW & SA Hall, Market Rasen both selling for £1,810. A run of cows with calves at foot selling to £2,400 for a 10-year-old Limousin cow with a 2-month-old heifer calf at foot from JT & WA Smith & Son with Cows and Calves averaging £2,336.
