Hull Livestock Market – 19th January 2026 – Fatstock & Fortnightly Store Market
Forward – 313 head of stock including 59 Cattle, 211 Sheep and 43 Pigs.
PIGS
A steadier show of pigs through the market this week, mainly comprising of sows with a handful of heavy gilts thrown in. Sow trade identical to last week, with the oversupply on the continent still hampering prices. The best grossing price yesterday in excess of £110 for a 114kg gilt from Foster Farms, Catwick.
Heavy Gilts to 94p/kg and £110.92, average 83.8p/kg.
Cull Sows to 35p/kg and £103.95, average 32p/kg.
SHEEP
A good throughput of sheep yesterday including a flock dispersal sale from O Levison, Brantingham, with a nice run of in-lamb Suffolk x Mule gimmers from JC Aconley & Son, Brandesburton also in the pens, with plenty of buyers in attendance. Prime hoggs an expected trade with what has been seen through the market since the new year. Mainly smaller sort store hoggs forward yesterday with a majority of pens over 300p/kg and top price being realised of over 360p/kg or £116/head.

A great turn out of yesterday in the cattle ring, topping at £1,760 for a run of three, 20 month old Hereford Heifers from regular vendor H W Colley & Son, Holme-on-the-Wold. C W White & Son, Beverley seeing strong demand for their run of seven Simmental Bulls also topping at £1,760. The little ring seeing equally as strong trade with a run of calves from W E Foreman & Son, Brigham seeing their usual demand and topping at £710 for a 7 week old Blue Bull. Plenty of other stock in the little ring realising over £500.

PIGS
A good showing of pigs through the market yesterday with numbers up from previous weeks. The best price yesterday in excess of £100 or 111p/kg for a 92kg Cutter Pig from Foster Farms, Catwick. Pig trade still on the decline, with the massive oversupply on the continent now spilling into the domestic market and further hampering prices.

Heavy Gilts to 60p/kg and £76.57, average 43.3p/kg
Cull Sows to 30p/kg and £92.38, average 28.5p/kg.
SHEEP
A smaller number of sheep forward this week, but in no way lacking quality. E Brown & S Suddaby, Bempton with a number of Prime Hoggs and Ewes forward displaying their usual quality, seeing a pen of 46kg hoggs realise 339p/kg. Trade of the day coming from a pen of store hoggs from regular vendor N Harland, Alkborough achieving 400p/kg with plenty of other pens from the same vendor achieving in excess of 350p/kg.

CATTLE
A quieter showing through the cattle ring this week, as the late show of backend cattle now slows down. However, still a strong trade for the cattle forward with Carr Hill Farm, Skipsea seeing their run of seven 12–13-month-old Limousin Steers and Heifers topping at £1,480/head with an average of £1,428.57/head. The trade from the little ring yesterday was excellent with a run of twelve Limousin and British Blue Calves 6-8 weeks in age from W E Foreman & Son reaching £740/head with an average £670.42/head, a real sign of the quality on offer yesterday.

PIGS
Another good showing of pigs through the market yesterday off the back of last week. Best trade yesterday was from C F Buckton & Son, Rise seeing both the top p/kg and per head with a fit pork weight gilt and a strong pen of overweight hogs respectively, both purchased by AJ Livestock, Hotham. Pig trade generally on the decline, with the massive oversupply on the continent now spilling into the domestic market and further hampering prices. But prices in hull today, definitely stronger than we have seen recently.
Porker Pigs to 120p/kg and £102.60, average 107.1p/kg
Overweight Pigs to 100p/kg and £127, average 100p/kg
Heavy Gilts to 61p/kg and £78.54, average 35.6p/kg
Cull Sows to 30p/kg and £95.06, average 28.2p/kg.

Small show of sheep again on the fat market with a couple of pens of feeding ewes on offer. Vendors, please note sheep are easier to market on the store market weeks

Forward – 53 head of stock including 65 Cattle, 124 Sheep and 26 Pigs.
PIGS
A few less pigs about this week but a bit better trade all round. Sows up a penny or so despite a not particularly exciting show quality wise, the exception being a handful from J T Stubbings & Sons, Helperthorpe that averaged over £100/head, a fair achievement given the current state of affairs. Heavy gilts were a decidedly better trade than we’ve seen recently, topping at 92p/kg or £161 for a really good fit pig again from Messrs Stubbings, purchased by Mr Don Binks of R H Binks & Sons, East Ardsley.

Cull Sows to 30.5p/kg and £111.90, average 29.4p/kg.
SHEEP
Another decent show of hoggs on the store market week, when they are much better to market and a strong trade to boot. This week topping at 354p/kg and £168 for two different pens both from N R Wild, North Newbald and both purchased by Laverack Butchers, Holme-on-Spalding-Moor and Pocklington. Store hoggs still look a strong trade, even this late in the season, with only poorer-bred sorts and tups being particularly knocked back at the moment.

CATTLE
Another good show of cattle this week, we seem to be picking up a lot of the cattle that didn’t come forward at back end due to the late grazing season at the moment and they hopefully should run nicely into spring sales, which should be due to kick in soon. Cattle trade still tremendous, as seen across the industry, with a number of cattle today over £2,000, with clean cattle topped by a strong Limousin Steer from H W Colley & Son, Holme on the Wolds at £2,060 and a fit cow from J Hunt, Louth realising the same figure. Calves as strong as ever at the moment, with a good run of Blues from A Oxtoby & Son, Bishop Burton seeing real demand and topping at £730 for a heifer under 3 months of age. Fresh Angus calves from E W & S Varley, Seaton selling to £445.
