Hull Livestock Market Christmas Show & Sale of Fatstock & Store Cattle – 1st December 2025
Forward – 287 head of stock including 6 Prime Cattle, 30 Store Cattle, 189 Sheep and 62 Pigs.
PIGS
Some really quality pigs on offer yesterday for the show judge, Mr Richard Liversidge to choose between. He gave the nod for champion pigs to Messrs Brankley of Abbeygarth Pigs, Welwick with a cracking pen of hogs, weighing 109.5kg and purchased by the judge himself for 214p/kg, grossing £263.20/head. Reserve champion pigs were shown by Webb & Goddard, Cherry Burton, purchased by Propa Butchers, Roos for 220p/kg, with the third placed pen from J T Stubbings & Sons, Malton again selling to the judge for 192p/kg. T G Broumpton & Son, Brandesburton were victorious in the heavy gilt class, winning the Frank Hill & Son Cup with a lovely 118kg heavy gilt selling again to the judge Mr Liversidge at 200p/kg, the first different winner of the trophy for 5 years. The sow class was won by K J Moore & Sons, Weel, with a strong 321kg sow that was purchased by Mr Sidney Bramley on behalf of Cheale Meats, Brentwood for 50p/kg or £160.50. A smaller number of sows through the market this week, with vendors cautious due to the ongoing uncertainty over supply on the continent and subsequent lower prices, and also on the back of a good show last week. There are only two more markets before Christmas so please get in touch if you have any sows to market.
Bacon Pigs to 240p/kg and £263.20, average 194.3p/kg.
Overweight Pigs to 220p/kg and £272.80, average 188.1p/kg
Heavy Gilts to 200p/kg and £252.32, average 138.9p/kg.
Cull Sows to 50p/kg and £160.50, average 40.7p/kg.
SHEEP
A super trade for sheep this week, right through the sale but particularly in the show pens, with Mr Richard Coulson, Osgodby having a tough time picking out a pen of Texel Lambs from N Harland, Alkborough as the champions and then going on to purchase them himself on behalf of G Howsam, Stickford for a wonderful £212/head, or 389.0p/kg. The reserve champion trophy leaving the market with F M Richardson & J M Clubley, Bewholme, with that pen purchased again by the judge on behalf of G Howsam for £183 or 352p/kg. Regular supporters E Brown & S Suddaby, Bempton coming out on top in the ewe class with a pen of Texels selling to G Howsam for £188/head.

CATTLE
A nice little show of cattle this year, judged by Mr D Binks, East Ardsley, who gave the Champion Beast trophy to a 548kg Limousin Steer, shown by Dom Gooch of Cote Farm, Roos and bought by Parkin Family Butchers, Howden for 470p/kg or £2,575.60, which also topped the market on the day. First placed heifer and reserve champion beast was a 630kg Limousin from C F Buckton & Son, Rise bought for 436p/kg or £2,746.80 again by Parkin Family Butchers. A heifer day all round, store cattle were topped by the first placed heifers, a cracking pair of Simmentals from H W Colley & Son Ltd, Holme on the Wolds, well capable of doing either job, snapped up by D Barker, East Ayton for £2,240. A very positive trade all round, with prime cattle averaging in excess of 420p/kg and store cattle comfortably over £1,400/head.

Aberdeen Angus Heifer to 426p/kg and £2,683.80.
A Limousin Heifer donated by J C Aconley & Sons of Brandesburton and sold in memory of the late Basil Aconley with proceeds to be donated to Brandesburton Primary School sold for £2,420 (384p/kg), with a bottle of Glenfiddich Whisky donated by Keith Blakey for the same cause being sold 11 times and raising in excess of £500.
