PIGS
A few less pigs about this week but a bit better trade all round. Sows up a penny or so despite a not particularly exciting show quality wise, the exception being a handful from J T Stubbings & Sons, Helperthorpe that averaged over £100/head, a fair achievement given the current state of affairs. Heavy gilts were a decidedly better trade than we’ve seen recently, topping at 92p/kg or £161 for a really good fit pig again from Messrs Stubbings, purchased by Mr Don Binks of R H Binks & Sons, East Ardsley.
Heavy Gilts to 92p/kg and £161.00, average 83.0p/kg
Cull Sows to 30.5p/kg and £111.90, average 29.4p/kg.
SHEEP
Another decent show of hoggs on the store market week, when they are much better to market and a strong trade to boot. This week topping at 354p/kg and £168 for two different pens both from N R Wild, North Newbald and both purchased by Laverack Butchers, Holme-on-Spalding-Moor and Pocklington. Store hoggs still look a strong trade, even this late in the season, with only poorer-bred sorts and tups being particularly knocked back at the moment.
Prime Hoggs
Mediums to 354p/kg and £161, average 337.0p/kg.
Heavies to 350p/kg and £168, average 320.8p/kg.

Cull Ewes to £163, average £149.57.
Store Hoggs to £135, average £105.11.
CATTLE
Another good show of cattle this week, we seem to be picking up a lot of the cattle that didn’t come forward at back end due to the late grazing season at the moment and they hopefully should run nicely into spring sales, which should be due to kick in soon. Cattle trade still tremendous, as seen across the industry, with a number of cattle today over £2,000, with clean cattle topped by a strong Limousin Steer from H W Colley & Son, Holme on the Wolds at £2,060 and a fit cow from J Hunt, Louth realising the same figure. Calves as strong as ever at the moment, with a good run of Blues from A Oxtoby & Son, Bishop Burton seeing real demand and topping at £730 for a heifer under 3 months of age. Fresh Angus calves from E W & S Varley, Seaton selling to £445.
