Forward – 259 head of stock including 25 Cattle, 154 Sheep and 80 Pigs.
PIGS
Pig numbers up again with 80 pigs through the market. Sow trade back again, with the oversupply over on the continent continuing to affect the domestic market, smaller cleaner sorts seeing increased demand yesterday though, owing to a lack of processing gilts forward, topping at 40p/kg from Foster Farm, Catwick. A nice run of fat pigs forward yesterday selling to 178p/kg for a pen of 103kg bacon gilts from Abbey Garth Pigs, Welwick.
Cutter Pigs to 167p/kg and £159.49, average 167p/kg.
Bacon Pigs 178p/kg and £183.93, average 167.5p/kg.
Overweight Pig 96p/kg and £165.12.
Cull Sows to 40p/kg and £57.80, average 19.3p/kg.
SHEEP
Sheep numbers increasing as we reach the middle of June, with plenty of quality spring lambs forward being met with high demand from buyers. Top price selling to 469p/kg or £211/head for pen of really smart 45kg lambs from regular vendor E Brown & S Suddaby, Bempton. Plenty of other quality forward with every spring lamb in the market selling for in excess of 410p/kg. Hogg trade back slightly from a fortnight ago with a bit of all sorts forward, leaner sorts knocked with better quality hoggs still seeing a good trade, selling to 375p/kg or £150/head for a pen of 40kg hoggs from N Harland, Alkborough.

CATTLE
A smaller showing of cattle yesterday with a mixture of calves, store cattle and cows and calves forward. Store cattle selling to £1,655 for a 24-month-old Simmental Heifer from C W White & Son, Beverley. Cows and calves forward from a few vendors including the last two outfits from L Scott, Seaton, following their dispersal sales last month. Selling to £2,540 for a strong 7-year-old Beef Shorthorn cow with a 2-month-old heifer calf at foot from GL Riby & Son. The little ring was the star of the show yesterday though, with chants of “Are you Leyburn in disguise?” heard from across the market as a run from A Oxtoby & Son were sold with their British Blue and Hereford Bull calves selling to a whopping £790 for a 3-month-old British Blue and averaging an impressive £778 for Blues and £682 overall, with nothing over 13 weeks old in the run.

Continental Feeding Cows to £1,710, average £1,680.
Cows with calves at foot to £2,540 for a 7-year-old Beef Shorthorn cow with a 2-month-old heifer calf at foot from GL Riby & Son, to average £2,180.
