Auctions

With a long standing association with auctions and livestock markets in East Yorkshire and further afield we continue to offer this traditional and competitive approach to selling always intent on maximising value for our clients.

We operate the only remaining livestock market in East Yorkshire from our livestock market at Dunswell between Beverley and Hull selling prime and store stock. With fat and cull sheep and pigs every Monday starting at 10.30am and store cattle, sheep and pigs fortnightly. With 3 experienced auctioneers, mobile office and dedicated office team we can advise you on your sale and will set up, undertake and sell your goods for you after full marketing. If you have a small number of items to sell one of our regular collective sales either monthly at the Cattle Market or one of our 5 sales a year at our sale ground at Winestead will be able to accommodate you. We are also able to sell by online auction if this is more appropriate to your circumstances. Email us for more information j.buckton@frankhillandson.co.uk.

THE CATTLE MARKET
DUNSWELL
FATSTOCK AND FORTNIGHTLY STORE MARKET

Forward – 220 head of stock including 15 Cattle, 153 Sheep and 52 Pigs.

PIGS
A much heavier show of sows this week, with the top price being back up to just shy of £200, with top p/kg very similar to last week and the average just slightly better as well. Market topped in both columns this week by a monster sow from J T Stubbings & Son, Helperthorpe. A good run of heavy gilts, unfortunately one or two buyers missing for these this week for different reasons but trade steady throughout for them and still very similar to what we’ve seen recently.

Heavy Gilts to 104p/kg and £147.25, average 87.8p/kg.

Cull Sows to 56p/kg and £197.83, average 53.5p/kg.

SHEEP
Another good show of lambs this week on the store market, which is certainly where the demand for them is. Trade steady throughout as well, with no real premium seen for early or late lambs within the sale. Condition is key though, lambs lacking flesh were knocked yesterday, especially those over 40-42kg but lacking finish. Strong demand for store lambs, promising signs with a good show expected next week for the Breeding Sheep & Store Lamb Sale.

Prime Lambs
Standards to 330p/kg and £127, average £329.9p/kg.
Mediums to 371p/kg and £167, average 344.5p/kg.
Heavies to 346p/kg and £161, average 324.1p/kg.
Over-weights to 282p/kg and £155, average 281.8p/kg.
SQQ 343.6p/kg.

Cull Ewes to £172, average £152.33.

Store Lambs to £129, average £117.85.

CATTLE
Another small show of cattle, but this is wholly attributable to the time of year, we’ve sold more cattle in August this year than we have done for a long time. Half a dozen good store beast forward though, seeing a healthy trade, especially considering the timing, on a real harvesting day. There’s always demand for calves at the moment and yesterday was no exception, with another good trade, more calves expected next week, with some entered for today unable to travel due to a slow postal service.

Store Cattle
Blonde D’Aquitaine Steers to £1,520, average £1,387.
Blonde D’Aquitaine Heifers to £1,295, average £1,263.

Calves
Limousin Bull to £700.
British Blue Bulls to £675, average £673.
British Blue Heifer to £615.
Hereford Bulls to £580, average £565.
