Forward – 280 head of stock comprising 2 OTMS Cattle, 35 Store Cattle, 9 Calves, 187 Sheep and 47 Pigs.

 

Cattle

All classes of cattle remain good to sell with keen demand from buyers. Hereford feeding cows reaching £1560 from H Lythe. A good run of store cattle saw most continental types get into four figures, the best from Turner Bros reaching £1650 for a Limousin Steer, continental bred cattle averaging £1254 across steers and heifers.

 

Calves sold to a tremendous trade with British Blue X Bulls breaching the £700 barrier three times and twice topping at £760 for quality calves from WE Foreman & Son. Heifers from the same home topped at £580, heifers on the day selling beyond £500 several times. Not a week to be on your holidays and miss this sort of trade.

PIGS
Very light in the prime pig section this week, sow numbers remain similar although trade a penny or so easier on the average but more a reflection on the lighter sows on offer. Bigger, heavier sows still heading towards the 50p/kg mark.

Heavy Gilts to 75p/kg and £165.00, average 75p/kg.

Cull Sows to 50p/kg and £165.00, average 46.4p/kg.

SHEEP
A good show of sheep this week, trade remaining very similar with the majority of the prime hoggs forward in excess of £3.30p/kg and many over the £3.40p/kg. Regular supporters E Brown & S Suddaby topping the trade with a pen of 45.5kg lambs making £158 and heading to Laverack Butchers of Holme on Spalding Moor. Cull Ewes remain sought after hitting highs of £170 for a pen of ewes from WH Faulding. Store lambs saw a healthy entry and many heavier short keep lambs forward topping at £129 fom EJ & GM Judge.

Prime Hoggs
Mediums to 347p/kg and £158, average 338.2p/kg.
Heavies to 339p/kg and £158, average 333p/kg.

Over 52kg to 328.3p/kg and £174 average 318/4p/kg

 

Cull Ewes to £170 and average £160.80

Cull Rams to £204

 

Store Lambs to £129 average £111
